Free Meals to the Community

Cihan & Cem made the decision to close Packet Bridge & Westgate Fish & Chips due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. They had deep discussions between themselves followed by a staff meeting called by Cem to inform them of their decision. The decision was made based upon the severity of the virus. We didn’t feel as though the general public were adhering to social distancing guidelines and were not willing to put our staff, their families or our customers at risk. Backed by the government Furlough scheme, the staff were given reassurance of their financial situation as Cihan and Cem had made the decision to ensure all staff were paid the additional 20% on top of the government scheme.

The following day we decided to use up all of our fresh stock we had left and distribute it to the local community. We prepared, cooked and delivered 171 Light Bite meals to NHS workers at Heysham Health Centre, The Thorns Care Home in Hest Bank, Thornton Lodge Care Home in Morecambe, Hillcroft Nursing Home in Slyne, both Lancaster & Morecambe Police Station, Mossgate Primary School and Dennis Barnfields of Bolton Le Sands. This gesture of goodwill was very well received by all and it made the extremely difficult decision to close feel that little bit better.

Later that day, the government announced a full lockdown excluding key workers. McDonalds and other large fast food chains decided to close their doors to the general public and we knew we had made the right decision prior to being forced to do so. We look forward to reopening our doors and serving the finest Fish & Chips to our fantastic customers!
